Mirza Ghalib- Urdu Poet who introduced a Unique Expression

Ghalib introduced a new style of poetic expressions in Urdu Poetry based on humor, wit and romance. His poetry depicts different circumstances he faced at diverse times in life. He expressed even the hardest time of his life being amused and clever. Chunk of expression is easy and thought provoking which makes reader to feel and touch the subject in real.  Ghalib was highly intellectual poet no one is aware about his qualification but his strength of expression has convinced every one about his ability and understanding on life and literature.

Despite his golden creative work people are forgetting his efforts and originality. Especially it is painful to see the Indian Government who is numb about brutal happenings with the last resort of the Ghalib. His haveli in Gali Qasimjan in Ballimaran is being considered as the ordinary residence. At different times people have used it as wedding palace and rest area for laborers working around. Even the initiative of Indian Government to construct a Monument has failed because nothing more than evacuation and substandard painting was done to preserve the last place of Urdu poet.

It is evident from the history; people who never honored their leaders have always failed in making out difference as progressive nation. Today Urdu language is facing different challenges which are generating different national Queries.

To revive the status it is collective responsibility of every Urdu Speaker to play his role for the betterment of Urdu language.

Difference between the Nazm and the Ghazal

Nazm and ghazal are the foundation of Urdu poetry and poets used it to express themselves. There are many variations in Nazm and ghazal but the main is that; ghazals is subjective in nature and Nazm is objective in nature. It can be rightly said that the shape of Urdu poetry is only for Nazm and ghazal.

The main difference between the Nazm and the ghazals is that; ghazals is only 9 to 10 verses and the nazm contains many paragraphs according to content.

As a nature Nazm is objective only follow the theme and ghazal show completely different theme. If you want to read Nazm must read the whole part of the Nazm and in case of Ghazal, can easily understand even read a single verse.

In ghazal there are two restrictions; the writer must used in the first verse of ghazal called “Matla” and the last verse writer used “Maqta”. Maqta means the writer can use his name at the end verses of the ghazals. In the case of Nazm there is no such restriction like ghazal; the writer can use their name any anywhere as they can.

The Nazm can be divided into three categories according to their themes and topics; these are Qasida, Marsia and Masnavi and the ghazal cannot be subdivided. So, we can say that Nazm and ghazal are the two different corners of the Urdu poetry.

Importance of Ghazals in Urdu Language

Ghazal is one of the best corner stone of Poetry. The trend of ghazal has been started from ancient Iran in 10th century. The roots of the Urdu ghazal come from Persian “Qasida” and unique part of the qasida known as tashbib.

With the help of ghazals, poets convey a real message and it is too short in its length. Mostly the unique ghazals is written only seven to eight verses .Due to its Shortness, thematic variety, brevity and high scope Qasida become a most popular poetic form in Iran.

When the Muslims influence from 12th century; the ghazals spurred its wings and at that time Mughals bore their civilization and culture regarding poetry and literature, so Urdu poetry become great influenced accordingly. When the Mughals known that Urdu is the language of culture, civilization and the mixture of Indian subcontinent then they try to grow and develop the elements of Urdu poetry and literature.

Ghazals originated with Amir Khusro from (1253-1325) in Northern Indian Subcontinent. In early stages Ghazal got the popularity in Deccan and afterwards it is sophisticated in the court of Bijapur under the Muslims ruler.

Initially the Urdu ghazals grow with great efforts of our famous poets like Mirza Asad Ullah Khan Ghalib, Meer Dard, Quli Qutab shah, Zauq, Sauda and many more.

Nowadays the great inventions and newly dimensions of daily lives of love, Ghazals gained more popularity.
