Mirza Ghalib- Urdu Poet who introduced a Unique Expression

Ghalib introduced a new style of poetic expressions in Urdu Poetry based on humor, wit and romance. His poetry depicts different circumstances he faced at diverse times in life. He expressed even the hardest time of his life being amused and clever. Chunk of expression is easy and thought provoking which makes reader to feel and touch the subject in real.  Ghalib was highly intellectual poet no one is aware about his qualification but his strength of expression has convinced every one about his ability and understanding on life and literature.

Despite his golden creative work people are forgetting his efforts and originality. Especially it is painful to see the Indian Government who is numb about brutal happenings with the last resort of the Ghalib. His haveli in Gali Qasimjan in Ballimaran is being considered as the ordinary residence. At different times people have used it as wedding palace and rest area for laborers working around. Even the initiative of Indian Government to construct a Monument has failed because nothing more than evacuation and substandard painting was done to preserve the last place of Urdu poet.

It is evident from the history; people who never honored their leaders have always failed in making out difference as progressive nation. Today Urdu language is facing different challenges which are generating different national Queries.

To revive the status it is collective responsibility of every Urdu Speaker to play his role for the betterment of Urdu language.

Urdu and the Regional Languages of Pakistan

Urdu is our national language, which means that the mention of any issue related to it is likely to generate off such disagreeing ardor as devotion, nationalism, imperialism, domination, Brilliance, Past, present and future.

On one hand we have scholars and common people defending the cause of Urdu as the language of communication and as a symbol of national. On the other hand, you have other scholars and common people who would say that the role of the national language has merged into ‘an imperialism of Urdu’ and the regional language have been pressed to the side.

We have interrogate some experts from across the country and what we understand from their opinions is that the disagreement between Urdu and the regional languages can be discussed at three levels: (a) political (b) academic (educational system) and (c) linguistic.

It has also been pointed out that it is possible to acknowledge the role of Urdu in our national life without accepting imperialism. Such an approach would also imply accepting Urdu as it has evolved since 1947, and not maintain on typical Puritanism.

Pakistan is a multi – lingual country. No less than twenty –four languages and dialects are spoken by the by the people of Pakistan, but mainly include five regional languages Panjabi, Sindhi, Balochi, Pashto, Bravhi and Kashmiri.

The regional languages however different from one another in their forms, dialects and expressions of thoughts have several common factors in them. They cultivate in them love, respect and a firm devotion to the Pakistan Ideology.

The colorful Urdu language had a rich glossary derived from Prakrit coupled with Arabo-Persian words. Some of the noted literary men who used this language include Mirza Asadullah Khan Although Ghalib wrote in Persian as well, he is better known for his ghazals written in Urdu.

His ghazals contain Urdu heavily loaded with Persian words. Before Ghalib, the ghazal was mainly an expression of love and tenderness but Ghalib introduced the elements of attitude, the sadness of human life among other things, so immensely expanding the purview of the ghazal.

Ghalib closest competitor was the Dehli poet Zauq who occurred t be a tutor to Bahadur Shah Zafr, then royal leader of India. The phases used by a Zauq are homely, his language graceful and his pronunciation stylish. The two of them unanimously fashionable and recognized the supremacy of Meer Taqi Meer, an immense figure of Urdu poetry in those times. Yet another famous contemporary of Ghalib was the poet Momin, whose ghazals had a definitely emotional flavor.

In the later period, other personalities of Urdu poetry include Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal who will be remembered forever for his “Saare Jahan Se Achcha Hindustan Hamara”, Josh Maliahabadi he prefix his name was meant to represent his passion for poetry. Faiz Ahmed Faiz Kaifi Azmi and Sahir Ludhianvi both of them penned many lyrics for Bollywood movies and otherwise had impressed position for themselves in the records of the language.
